World Usability Day Seminar: A low-carbon lifestyle through ICT

The Centre  for Sustainable Communications contributes to  World Usability Day 2009 with a seminar presenting current research. Jorge Zapico and Åsa Moberg, PhD students at the Centre, discuss different examples of how ICT can be used to save the environment and combat climate change. A list of all Swedish events at World Usability Day is available at WUD.se.

Presentations

E-books instead of paper books? E-books are on the way to become a widespread technology. Their environmental impact, however, has hardly been studied.  In an ongoing research project at the Centre for Sustainable Communications an e-book and a paper novel are compared from an environmental perspective. The preliminary results are presented at the seminar. Åsa Moberg

Improving carbon literacy In everyday life we are increasingly exposed to figures on CO2 emissions. But how can ordinary people relate to kilograms and tons of carbon dioxide? How much worse is a long distance flight than a one-year consumption of beef? At the seminar we will discuss different techniques and applications used to help making carbon dioxide information usable and understandable. Jorge L. Zapico
